Why do you have to break vectors into components?

We need the vertical and horizontal components so that we can add it to the other vertical and horizontal forces acting on the diagram object. This allows us to find the net force in the x and y direction. Choice D is wrong because it is NOT required. You only use the vector components if the problem equations.
